half gasoline half methanol carb

half gasoline half methanol carb

half gasoline half methanol carb

(OP)
just wondering if anyone has tried this or if you think it would work. if you could modify a holley 4bbl to run on methanol on the rear side only, the front would be used for staging, return road etc. this is a drag car.fuel supply would be seperate. rear side would have main metering and accer pump only. would a single plane or dual plane be better intake choice?

RE: half gasoline half methanol carb

Trivial to do with the "center hung" type bowls, since they are completely separate from each other.  A good portion of the idle mix does come through the secondary side even on a non-four-corner-idle carb, though.  The claimed benefit is so the fuel in the secondaries never goes stale, but I've found that tuning the secondary idle circuit is also critical in obtaining good idle and off-idle drivability.

What is it that you are trying to accomplish?

all i,m trying to do is gain some of the advantage of methanol with less of the headaches. by the way this carb has no discharge hole below the secondary plates just short transfer slots above the throttles fed from the front side

RE: half gasoline half methanol carb

You will get all the disadvantages with only half the advantages.

Either run methanol or run petrol.

RE: half gasoline half methanol carb

thanks patprimer, about half was what i was hoping for. if I do this and have even half the problems the car will go back on gasoline. a tenth of a sec. is hard to find on a 9 sec car.(especially when your a cheap charlie)

RE: half gasoline half methanol carb

Why not just run a methanol carby and run methanol straight up.

A 9 second car is not really suitable for street use anyway, so what advantage do you hope to obtain from dual fuel.

Once you have to deal with the corrosion problems of methanol, what advantage is there in retaining some petrol.

Fuel costs for drag racing is insignificant in the overall scheme of things.

Methanol runs cooler, makes more power and supports higher compression or boost levels and is cheaper to buy than high octane racing petrol.
