hi.
im modelling a jet turbine engine.its very nearly completed apart from a few minor niggles, which i cant seem to do.On the combustion i have a sheet metal rectangle with several rows of round holes in it, this is then rolled in to a cylinder which is fine, but i need the holes to be dimpled from the inside. can this be done? as i cant seem to do it. ant help appreciated

RE: Jet Turbine

You won't be able to get a true sheet metal model of this, since it involves stretching of actual material which SW sheet metal won't do.  You can create a different model by shelling a solid body, or try using the indent feature. If you are unfamiliar with these functions, check out SW Help.

thanks ill try it that way, as i can get dimples in the flat part but once its rolled up they jusy appear next to the model and not actually attached to it.

RE: Jet Turbine

I did a SolidWorks model of a turbojet engine once - a WREN MW54. You can still see a tiny image of it in exploded view at the top of the page http://www.wrenturbines.co.uk/

Anyway, I had the same problem. Couldn't get dimples around the holes in the combustor can, at least not using the sheet metal features. I spent almost as long on that one problem as creating the rest of the engine.

Peter,
Please post a picture link when you're finished.  I would love to see it.
