How to make a compound angle in Solidworks?

How to make a compound angle in Solidworks?

How to make a compound angle in Solidworks?

(OP)
I need to make a trapezoid with a compound angle. I can easily draw/create it with the front or side views but cannot figure out how to do it 3D. Any suggestions?

RE: How to make a compound angle in Solidworks?

It depends upon what information you have about the compound angle you are trying to create. If you can draw the front and side views, you should easily be able to construct the solid. Take a look at the 2D to 3D functions and the example in the Help file.

cheers

RE: How to make a compound angle in Solidworks?

I often have to come up compund angle setups for a 5" sin plate for our tool makers. Typicaly I have a component that has some bizzare compound angle on it. I make three simple solid rectangles to simulate a compound sin plate. In an assembly model I mate the edges like a hinge of the three plates. Then I mate my component normal to the xy of the top plate. Then I just add a coincident mate from the compond face of the componet to the bottom plate of the 3 plate sin. It then pops right up as if your were grinding a flat on it. Now you can measure the two compound angles of the plates.

Could you use a 3D sketch to draw it? I regularly use 3D sketches to calculate compound angles for driveshafts etc.

RE: How to make a compound angle in Solidworks?

Use sketches to define the end plane of the compund angle.  Make a plane on the sketches.  Use the plane for cut sketch plane or extrude end conditions.  Also look into "Replace Face".
