Cutting Force Calculation

Can anyone point me to a good resource for calculating cutting force on a tool insert?  Even a plot or measurement would be a good starting point.

RE: Cutting Force Calculation

Machinery's Handbook has a great second on cutting forces and chip flow angle.

RE: Cutting Force Calculation

Machinery's Handbook has equations for estimating cutting power and force required for metal cutting.  Cutting force normal to the cutting can be calculated from the power required ( Power = "RPM" x force x radius.

Wow the Kennametal site is cool, bookmarking that one now.  Thanks guys, should have thought to check the Machinery's Handbook......pretty much the answer to everything in there :)

RE: Cutting Force Calculation

Hi,
also try to google for "Pijspanen" and "Ernst-Merchant" theories.
