ASME VIII - 1 & -2 PSV Course
ASME VIII - 1 & -2 PSV Course
(OP)
Hi,
I need to learn ASME VIII - 1 & -2 Pressure Vessel Code. (Basics for costing purpose)
Can anyone please tell me where can I find a course and material.
I found two courses online one from ASME itself & otherone from codeware. They are very costly & are only offered in USA. Am based in UK, I dont have funds or resources to go to USA to take this course, atleast not in this short period.
Thank you for your time.

First you need an engineering background to enable you understand the ASME VIII Code. Do you have an engineering (mechanical perhaps) degree or diploma?
The principles of pressure vessel design are not much different in UK than USA. I suggest to take up any pressure vessel design course available in UK (PD 5500 or EN), that will help the transition to ASME. In one shot, you'll understand the difference between these major codes, save some money while reading the many, many pages of ASME VIII, and then ASME II, ASME V, ASME IX which are closely related to section VIII. This will take a few years, but the benefit will be commensurable with the effort put in. Plus the extra benefit of helping others on this forum.
Best of luck,

I have Engineering background but its majorly Electrical.
I did MSc in Electric Power Engineering from a Swedish Univ.
I have basics of some Mechanical Engg subjects.
I work in a company which manufactures Heaters & Control Panels for Process & Petrochem industry, am quite familiar with Heater Bundle Design & Control Panel Design. I wanted to learn Pressure Vessel Design.
I know my comapany is the best place to learn because they have more than 50 years of expierence in this field. But being a small & old company, the people who work here are like Dinasourus of this place, they think if they let someone else learn skills they will go extinct.
Can anyone please direct me to a firm or institute which can offer 2-3 day course in Pressure Vessels to BS PD5500.
Thanks

I have taken a couple of ASME instructor-led online courses and found them to be pretty good.
ASME also offers self-study online courses, although I don't know offhand if they offer the PV course you are looking for. I suggest you browse the offerings.

No, they are not especially cheap, but then what is?

The instructor is not an engineer and is really sub-standard in code knowledge.
Hate to sound negative about the man....but facts is facts.
