Adhesive for Chlorine Service

Adhesive for Chlorine Service

Adhesive for Chlorine Service

(OP)
Many valves use adhesives such as Loctite for thread locking and cylindrical fitted parts.  However, Loctite is not recommended for chlorine service do to the explosion potential due to outgasing during curing.  Does anyone know of an adhesive that can be used in chlorine service?

RE: Adhesive for Chlorine Service

xcrosby,
try contacting your local Loctite Representative and/or check out the website http://www.henkel.com/cps/rde/xchg/henkel_com/hs.xsl/12165_COE_HTML.htm by yourself.
They have hundreds of different adhesive grades, maybe there is also something that does not outgas during curing...

Hope this helps,     'NGL

RE: Adhesive for Chlorine Service

xcrosby,
one more suggestion: try investigating the anaerobic adhesives and in particular the Loctite 245, Loctite 577 and Loctite 586 products.

As far as I know, they were tested in oxygen service (i.e. with another strong oxidative agent) by BAM, the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing: see http://www.bam.de/index_en.htm.
