Custom made propane tank - is this safe?

Custom made propane tank - is this safe?

Custom made propane tank - is this safe?

(OP)
I am working on a project which requires a very small propane supply. I have not been able to located any sort of commercially made propane tank smaller than 16.4oz, so I'll have to make one.

I want to use a peice of 1.25" diameter brass pipe 6" long with a cap on both ends. One cap will be drilled and tapped with a 1/4" NPT hole, which will have a standard brass fitting installed with "throw away tank" style 1x20 threads.

Is this safe? Everything I have read says brass pipe is rated for 1500 PSI and standard propane tanks are only rated for 480 PSI. Seems like it should work but I wanted to ask someone else before I end up with a pipe bomb. :)

RE: Custom made propane tank - is this safe?

Does NFPA 58 say anything on propane containers, even small ones? I think that the manufacturing and testing of such containers would be governed by code, depending on the eventual use of course.
