Machining of Magnesium

Machining of Magnesium

Machining of Magnesium

(OP)
We have some ZE41A magnesium to machine.
All of the articles on the subject that I have read are generic and do not specify the alloy when discussing special handling requirements.  Does anyone know the particulars of this alloy?  Chemistry requirements are 94% Magnesium.

Thanks

That type of information may be provided by the original melt source. If they do not have the requested information at hand, they should be able to direct you to a resource that does.

You also need to obtain fire extinguishers suitable for magnesium fires is you don't already have some. Mag fines and chips are easy to ignite.

...and hard to put out.
