What type of detail is normally provided in the rails of an underhung bridge crane at a building expansion joint? What kind of gap can the wheels tolerate?

One approach is to hang the rail from the structural steel with hangers pinned top and bottom.  The rail itself does not have a joint.  The hangers take up the expansion.
