IBC-2006 Table 1607

IBC-2006 Table 1607

IBC-2006 Table 1607

(OP)
SHOULD THESE AREAS BE ADDRESSED IN TRUSS CALCS:

(1) IBC 2006 TABLE 1607.1 ITEM #30, REGARDING THE 300# POINT LOAD FOR "ALL ROOF SURFACES SUBJECT TO MAINTENANCE WORKERS?"
(2) IBC 2006 TABLE 1607.1 ITEM #32, REGARDING 200# POINT LOAD FOR "SCUTTLES, SKYLIGHT RIBS AND ACCESSIBLE CEILINGS" (CHECK TOP AND BOTTOM CHORDS?)
(3) IBC 2006 TABLE 1607.1 ITEM #7, REGARDING THE 300# OR 40PSF LOAD FOR CATWALKS. IS THE "CATWALK" THAT RUNS FROM THE ATTIC ACCESS TO THE FAU THE SAME TYPE OF CATWALK REFFERED TO HERE? WOULD THE BOTTOM CHORD OF TRUSSES IN SUCH AREA NEEDED TO BE LOADED FOR THIS LOAD.
(4) UBC 97 REQUIRED A "FIRE SPRINKLER STRUCTURAL SUPPORT" LOAD OF 250#LL PLUS THE WEIGHT OF THE WATER FILLED PIPE. (TABLE 16-B ITEM #13) I DON'T SEE THIS LOAD IN IBC 2006.

I REALIZE BY CHECKING THE TOP AND BOTTOM CHORD FOR ITEM (2), YOU COVER ITEMS (1) AND (3) AS WELL. BUT NOT (4). BUT MY QUESTION IS, SHOULD "ALL" OF THE ITEMS LISTED ABOVE BE ADDRESSED IN TRUSS CALCS?

MY QUESTION IS WITH REGARD TO "ROOF" TRUSSES NOT FLOORS.

RE: IBC-2006 Table 1607

3) The catwalk is only necessary if the 200# load from #2 is not utilized. Otherwise the 200# load from #2 covers the catwalk load requirement.

4) It is correct that there is no sprinkler load requirement specifically stated in the IBC code, and there is in the UBC-97 code. It has generally been assumed that the 200# load is intended to cover that as well, although the code is not clear what the 200# load is for. There is no requirement in IBC to do 250# plus the weight of the water-filled pipe, so it does not need to be accounted for in that manner. If sprinkler loads are called out on the plans, they we as truss manufacturer certainly do account for separately from the 200# load check.

In general, per ANSI/TPI 1, it is up to the Building Designer and local code enforcement agency to specify the loads that needed to be carried by trusses, and they can specify any loading requirements desired. The trusses can be designed for any specified loading.

RE: IBC-2006 Table 1607

I believe the 250# man load + sprinkler load is from the NFPA publication.
