Hydraflow Compute System Question

Hydraflow Compute System Question

Hydraflow Compute System Question

(OP)
When using Hydraflow, you have an option to comute the system using "Full Design" which is supposed to design the system based on your design codes.  If I have a minimum slope of 0.5% and a minimum cover of 4.0' specified in the design codes and use "Full Design", the result is the entire system is designed with a slope of 0.5%.  The downstream end of a pipe segment looks ok for minimum cover but it uses 0.5% for the pipe slope and the upstream end of the pipe segment is too deep.  Any ideas or is this the way it designs the systems.

RE: Hydraflow Compute System Question

It sounds as though the program is working "correctly" although it may not be giving you an optimum practical design.  Why not plot out the profiles and look at them?  They may be correct but not what you want so you'll have to do the final design work yourself. Simply satisfying the minimum depth and minimum slope criteria is not really a complete design since you also need to consider maximum depth, cost, possible conflicts with other utilities etc. That's why it is an art, not a science.

good luck
