shear wall reinfocement

(OP)
hi everybody

i used ubc 79 and ACI 318-99
I HAVE DHEAR WALL IN MULTISTORY BUILDING UNSAFE FOR THE SHEAR RATIo the arch enginneer refuse to incease the width of wall

i hear we  can add stuirrps in the shear wall to be safe in shear

but i do not know what is the equation to calculate that and what is the condition ?

can you help me?

RE: shear wall reinfocement

Is that really UBC 79?  Or did you mean UBC 97?

Either way, ACI 318-99 should not be used as it is not referenced by the earlier UBC 97.

But in ACI - see section 11.10 for shear reinforcing of walls.  Specifically see 11.10.2 which refers you to Equations (11-1) and (11-2), sections 11.10.5, 11.10.6 and 11.10.9.

Hope this helps.

RE: shear wall reinfocement

PCA published a booklet which thoroughly explained the ACI provisions for shear walls.  The booklet is called "Design Provisions for Shear Walls."  It is available from PCA's web site.  Search for RD028.  This should bring you to a page of "Free Publications."
