Single Weldments in drawings

Single Weldments in drawings

Ok guys, I think I have a handle on how to do this, but I was hoping for some feedback to make the transition smoother for my design team.

My boss wants us to start doing 2-d drawings for fabricated steel baseplates that we currently make in house. those baseplates use almost exclusively C-channel and can have a variety of holes and fork pockets cut into them depending on the application.

recently we started using weldments to build the models of these baseplates. What I want to know is if there's a way to do a drawing of an individual structural member in weldments.

RE: Single Weldments in drawings

If you have Toolbox there are Structual steel profiles in there. You can use those to make your own profiles to be used in Weldments. SW also provides you with the ability to Download some from the site through your SW.

Go to the Task pane (right side) Expand "solidworks content" click on Weldments, Ctrl-Click the standard you want and if gives you a browse to folder. Pick the location and it will download the file to that folder. Now you have more profiles to work with.

See help for setting up profiles to be used with your weldments.

RE: Single Weldments in drawings

Check out Relative View in the Help files.

Also you can save individual structural members as separate (but still associated) parts and create a drawing from those in the normal fashion.
RMB click on a structural member in the Cut List folder and select Insert into new part...

cheers

RE: Single Weldments in drawings

I use relative view as Cor suggested, to do this.  I place the  relative views in a corner of the main weldment drawing.

Thanks CBL, you're right on the money as usual.
