Air-stripping VOC removal

Air-stripping VOC removal

Air-stripping VOC removal

(OP)
Good day everyone:

I need some suggestions please.  A well has a high concentration (above MCL) of PCE.  What are some methods of removal - inparticularly air stripping is the method I am looking at.  Where can I find this technology/vendors?  The well produces 500 GPM.

RE: Air-stripping VOC removal

I would try to work with a company that has experience in your local area.  Experience on a particular water supply can pay dividends in the long run.  If you are not a consultant, then you should first seek an experienced local firm.  If you're a consultant, I would contact an experienced tower packing manufacturer, since the mass transfer media is the heart of the process.  An internet search should turn up dozens of companies; however, one company is a recognized leader in this particular area.  Jaeger, Inc. of Houston, Texas manufactures one of the most widely used and field-proven random dumped packings known as Tripack.  I would contact them for a list of tower manufacturers in your area.  When selecting a tower manufacturer, I would insist on a company that has the capability to performance test their tower design on site using a small scale replica of the proposed system.  The duration of the test needs to be a month or longer, if possible.  You also need to perform a full scale analysis of the water supply.  Iron and biological fouling are a few of the feedwater contaminants that can cause operational and maintenance problems down the road, but with proper pretreatment, they can be controlled.  An experienced tower manufacturer should be able to assist you with the design and implementation process.

If you're located in the USA, there is probably a state regulatory agency that you will eventually need to deal with for approval to proceed.  I would contact that agency for any information that might be available to the general public concerning any local or regional companies that are currently treating their groundwater supply for the removal of PCE.  If you find a company or their engineering consultant, this could save you a lot of time and provide valuable insight.

RE: Air-stripping VOC removal

I have used air stripping to remove PCE from ground water. We did pilot study first to confirm the effectiveness and to collect the required design information. I suggest you to conduct pilot trial first.
