Neat Biodiesel Storage Tank Design
Neat Biodiesel Storage Tank Design
(OP)
To all..
Any suggestions on coatings ( both inside and outside) for a neat (100%) biodiesel storage tank ?
I am hearing everything from no coatings to exotic and expensive Plascite coatings.
Internet GOOGLE searches seem to be no help....
Also, aside froma bottom sump for water drainage, are there any recommended fatures that should be included ?
Is there any type of inerting suggested ? Should there be a dessicant dryer on the vent to prevent the ingress of water ?
MJC

Assuming you are discharging into the storage tank at sensible temperatures say <50C then you should not need anything special. I have been involved with quite a few biodiesel (and Methyl Ester) plants around the world, some that have been operating for many years, and all seem to be using plain and simple Carbon Steel tanks with no coatings.
If there where an issue with Biodiesel in storage tanks then gas station underground tanks and also vehicle fuel tanks would surely have a similar issue.
