Mountain Railway Design Guidelines

Mountain Railway Design Guidelines

Mountain Railway Design Guidelines

(OP)
Looking for some good references for the design of mountain railway.  I looked at AREMA Practical guide to Railway engineering (TOC).

I was looking for zig zag or switchback design, max gradient, drainage.

etc..

Thanks

RE: Mountain Railway Design Guidelines

These details are specific for the owner running the rail system.  Some allow sand application and up 2.5% grades, some have short trains of under five cars for small switch back radius.  Cog rail or trams are the norm in the Alps for specific mountain passes.  Tunnels are best.
