Need 3D Navigation Device Advice

Need 3D Navigation Device Advice

What is everyone using? Can I hear some comments about your hardware? Anyone using current 3DConnexion products?

Spacetraveler, Spaceexplorer, Spacepilot etc..

I posted a couple of weeks ago about our Spaceballs not being compatable with Win 64 (Serial connection problem) and have come to the conclusion that the Serial Spaceballs are now of no use to us.

Thanks,

RE: Need 3D Navigation Device Advice

I'm using the Space Explorer, and am quite happy with it (puck vs ball).  I didn't load all the crap that comes with it though... and for the life of me I can't find (nor can anyone else) the serial number to register it... hehe.

I don't use the buttons, so I can't testify to the mapping PIABS involved, but I've heard no complaints from others. YMMV.  And btw... were using Windows 32 bit machines fwiw.  Sorry I couldn't have been more help.  :-|

CAD should pay for itself, shouldn't it?

RE: Need 3D Navigation Device Advice

I'm using a SpacePilot, on Vista64.  I really like the feel of it over the SpaceBall, plus the Esc, Ctrl, Alt, and Shift are actual keys.

My only complaint with it are the drivers.  I've had crashes with the last two driver versions released, so I'm using an older driver, that doesn't allow me to program the buttons.  The pain of going to Vista64, before everything was sorted out.

Everything should be designed as simple as possible, but not simpler.

RE: Need 3D Navigation Device Advice

I have both a Space Navigator and a Space Traveler.  They're basically that same except for the size (and cost) and both work fine.  As you'd expect, I leave the Space Navigator on my fixed-based station and use the Space Traveler for when I'm out visiting customers and presenting at Users Meetings and Conferences.  If you do any traveling you'll want the Space Traveler as it's quite bill smaller, lighter than even the Space Navigator and besides, if comes with this really nifty leather travel case.  And since they can both run off the same driver (I installed the Space Traveler driver but the Navigator runs just fine on it as well).

I appreciate the time everyone took to reply. Based on the information you had, I have asked my IT department to try to get us some Space Navigators. The Space Pilot would have been pushing my luck way too far.
