Hard Drive Question?

Hard Drive Question?

Hard Drive Question?

(OP)
I need to buy another hard drive. I haven't kept up on them over the years. I really like western digital hard drives. I am thinking about getting a 150 gig 10,000 rpm raptor or a 500 gig 7200 rpm drive. I can't make my mind up. If I go with the 10,000 rpm drive I am going to make it my boot drive and use my existing drive for my data and back-up drive. If I go with the 7,200 rpm drive I will have that drive as my data and back-up drive.

My question is what would be the best config.?

RE: Hard Drive Question?

I'd say it's about about how much money you are willing to spend.  I'm guessing the choices you've mentioned are similar in price?

Yeah, they is about a $50 difference. The 10,000 rpm drive is $170 and the 7,200 rpm drive is $120.

I need storage, but like I said If I get the raptor I am going to use it as the boot drive and put all my software on it and use my existing drive for storage. I am hoping I will get a new system within 6 months.

RE: Hard Drive Question?

Well, I'd recommend investing in a large storage drive and in a quicker boot/program drive.  So if you already have a storage driver, get the 10,000 drive.  Otherwise, I'd actually say, buy both.

The drive that is in my computer is a 80 gig. hard drive. The funds are not there to buy both so I am told.

RE: Hard Drive Question?

If you are confident about upgrading within 6 months, I would go with the larger/storage drive.  You can get the faster drive with the new system and not have to mess with transferring windows and your programs onto a new drive now.  When the new system comes you should be able to move the storage drive into it with minimal fuss.
