Assemblies referencing wrong configuration

Assemblies referencing wrong configuration

(OP)
Hi all,

I have two different weldments (A and B) in different directories. When I open up two different assemblies (Assembly A and Assembly B), each assembly referencing one of the weldments, Solidworks gets confused and assembly A replaces weldment A with weldment B. Weldment B keeps the proper weldment in place.

Do I need to have a unique name for each weldment? Is this an issue that PDM works would address?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Assemblies referencing wrong configuration

You need to have a unique name for everything in SolidWorks or anything Windows based for that matter. Just having a separate path is not enough to distinguish between same-named files.

cheers

RE: Assemblies referencing wrong configuration

You cannot have two files with the same name open at the same time, whether they are in different directories or not.  Any time you open a drawing file or an assembly file, the referenced part files are opened in the background, even though they don't have their own graphics window.  You will need to rename one of the weldment files.

RE: Assemblies referencing wrong configuration

PDMWorks also requires each file to have a unique name, so it will not solve your problem as much as it will enforce the solution of having unique file names.

Thanks for the quick response guys! I guess I was hoping that different directories would give it enough of a differentiation.

Cheers
