Split bodies.

Split bodies.

Split bodies.

(OP)
Hi,
I am just wondering if there is any tool just opposite of combine. I can see there is one option call "split".
This does not solve my problem.
In my solid part model I draw different features of solid bodies. Once they are in contact they merge and make one single body.
Now I want to remove ( split) material from one feature by using some plane. But the plane split the whole body and not that single feature.
I would appreciate if someone could help me on this.

Thanks

RE: Split bodies.

Can you un-merge the feature and then split it using the plane?

You may also be able to create a surface which passes only through the feature and use it as the cutting tool.

cheers

RE: Split bodies.

I do this all the time.  Both Jeff and CorBlimeyLimey are correct--just depends which method will best solve your problem.

I often create plastic housings as a whole part, and then create a complex parting surface to split the parts (like a tongue-and-groove sort of fit).  So if you create a surface, you can use that to split your parts--you don't have to use an infinite plane to do so.  If your parting surface has multiple pieces to it, make sure you Knit them into a single surface body before trying to use the surface for the Split feature.
