IBC Existing Building Code "High Seismic Zone"?

IBC Existing Building Code "High Seismic Zone"?

IBC Existing Building Code "High Seismic Zone"?

(OP)
The IBC Existing Building Code uses the term "in high seismic zones...".  I connot find a definition for that in either the existing building code or the main IBC.  What am I missing?  Thanks.

RE: IBC Existing Building Code "High Seismic Zone"?

I called IBC.  They said it was a left over historical reference.  Maybe now they will revise in the 09 edition.

RE: IBC Existing Building Code "High Seismic Zone"?

If what msucog says ("US Hazards By Lat/Long", thread487-198381: high pot certification) is in fact the case, then this "historical reference" reason may be merely a case of saving face here.  It will be interesting to see what happens.  Really, how important is public safety to the IBC?

Another case of being "politically correct"?

Yep:

It is USGS, and the 1 should have been a 7 in the thread.  I really screwed up that one.  Senior moment(s).
