How long does it take for ASME to adopt the Revised ASTM?

How long does it take for ASME to adopt the Revised ASTM?

How long does it take for ASME to adopt the Revised ASTM?

(OP)
Please Refer ASME Sec II A, when one observes the year of  ASTM that has been adopted into ASME Sec II A is older than that of the current ASTM.

For Example  ASME Sec II A (2004) SA 333 the statement is made that SA 333 is identical to A 333 -99 edition.

Where as ASTM A 333-2003 is already available.

In ASTM A 333-99 version there was a glarring error (Which is still there in SA 333-2004), this got corrected in A 333-2003 version.

The error was that UT (As per E 213) was permitted in A 333 -99 (and SA 333-2004) but there was one more statement classifying UT as Non Destructiove  ELECTRIC TEST.

In the 2003 version of ASTM 333 this error is corrected and now UT is not longer permitted method of examonation.

Suppose the supplier of the pipe certifies the material (With UT) for SA 333, we have to accept the same (although with the error). This is the situation that prompted this question.

RE: How long does it take for ASME to adopt the Revised ASTM?

The shortest time possible for the ASME B&PV Code Committee to issue a revision is likely six months.  The Committee reviews all ASTM actions and it takes time to get a majority vote to adopt.  Then of course not all jurisdictions immediately accept the latest ASME B&PV Code Issues.

You may not need to wait for a new issue.  If you have a question you should write an inquiry to the Committee and ask for an Interpretation.  If you ask a Committee member to carry the inquiry to the Committee you may be able to expedite the Interpretation.

Just my opinion.

Regards, John.

RE: How long does it take for ASME to adopt the Revised ASTM?

SA 333 is listed in the 2004 Edition/2005 Addendum of ASME Section II, Part A, Ferrous Materials. This SA standard specification was revised in the 2005 Addendum of the ASME B&PV Code and references ASTM A333-04 Edition. The ASTM A333-04 specification has 12.3 deleted. You should be ordering this material to SA 333 (2004 Edition/2005 Addendum) or A 333-04.
