Looks like Dell's looking to replace the M90 with the new M6300.  Specs are in the article but a glance suggests up to 8GB of ram with Vista (blech) 64-bit, up to a Quadro FX3600M and even an Intel 2.6Ghz X7800.  You may want to keep your drool at bay if you try to req one of these machines though.

The cost will probably be same as SolidWorks itself!

RE: Dell to introduce new mobile CAD workstation

I found this out several weeks ago through our Dell rep. with whom we have a confidentiality agreement with. It's tuff not to spill the beans, but I can now tell you that there will be a delay in getting one of these with the higher end video card. The delay is at nVidia from what I was told. We're in the process of re-evaluating our mobile workstation specs and have been getting demo units from Dell, HP/Compaq, and IBM. I thought he said the cost will only be minimally more than the current M90 (not holing my breathe), but I should have pricing very shortly.

The M90 is still a good machine. Its price may drop once the M6300 is released making it a better deal.

cheers

Ug--I might need to get one of these sometime soon, now that I'm up in the mountains in the middle of beautiful nowhere (will need a good working machine while on the road).  I'll bet they're pricey.

How does all the graphics stuff work with Vista and Direct-X 10?  I heard that new standard will be totally different than what the standard graphics cards are doing (and incompatible or horribly slow).
