Dynamic or Online Motor Insulation Tester

(OP)
I have a customer who has requested an insulation monitor that continually monitors the motor insulation when the motor is off and prevents a start if the insulation tests as bad. This would be permanently mounted and as such should be a panel or door mountable unit. The motor is 600VAC and I'm in North America. I've found some portable dynamic motor test sets but nothing for a permanent installation.

Anyone know of a manufacturer of such a device?

RE: Dynamic or Online Motor Insulation Tester

There's one called "Meg-Alert" at http://www.megalert.com/.

Iris Engineering has partial-discharge monitoring that can be full-time online, but it's likely a lot more than you have in mind.

The other one I know of is MotoSafe out of Canada. I never used one personally, but I had customers who swore by them.

Solcon builds one in to their soft starters, but my experience with those is less than stellar, can't recommend that. But then again, you wouldn't want that anyway eh Lionel? winky smile
