testing force main

(OP)
I need to test a sewer force main, PVC SDR 26 pipe, approx. 10,000' length. Pump station @ approx. EL.524.00, high point approx. El. 621.00, outlet mh approx. EL. 320.00. There is an air release @ high point, no valves installed at any point along line. Spec. test to be 100 PSI. Any thoughts on most effecient way to proceed?

RE: testing force main

First, find the max. allowable test pressure of the pipe and fittings. If you maintain 100 PSIG at the high point you will have 230 PSIG at the outlet. If this exceeds the allowable material pressure you will have to accept a lower test pressure. And, unless allowance for a fitting has been made, the lower end will have to be sealed with a plug. As an inside-the-pipe plug is not a standard fitting, it will need to be plugged with an inflatable plug. This will need to be very well braced.

RE: testing force main

You need to review the design and installation of the force main before you do anything.

It probably makes sense to divide the pipe into segments and individually test the segments since the elevation varies along the route.

RE: testing force main

Valves are needed initially for testing and later for repairs, put some in.
