How to show length x width x depth in the BOM?

How to show length x width x depth in the BOM?

How to show length x width x depth in the BOM?

(OP)
I'm trying to get the BOM on a drawing sheet to automatically show the length, width and depth of a part.  Or put another way, give the custom properties of thickness and/or stock size real values.

I typically design parts in the assembly view and often and don't define a lot of dimensions since they are driven off of other assembly features.

My application is designing custom plywood cabinets for interactive science museum exhibits.

I could simply set the custom properties of stocksize and thickness manually for each part, but that seems a little tedious.

Shouldn't there be a variable somewhere that simply tells you how long, wide and thick a part is?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for any help.

If the cabinet frames are constructed with profiled sections, you may be able to use the Weldment module to generate cut lists.

Thank you for the ideas.  So far, this is what I've come up with.

Create part templates for the different stocks of plywood we use (e.g. 3/4", 1/2" etc).  With the Stocksize variable set to equal length and width of the sketch of the part.  Length and width are set at driven dimensions.

When in an assembly view, I can insert a new part, choose one of the templates of the plywood and then define the plywood size within the assembly.

And finally, when I'm doing the drawing everything comes through.

Possible problems so far include issues relating to defining part sizes using mates versus sketch identities, but it looks managable.

Again, thank you for the suggestions and ideas.

Ben
