How do I *successfully* plot tiff and pdf files to an Oce 9400?

How do I *successfully* plot tiff and pdf files to an Oce 9400?

How do I *successfully* plot tiff and pdf files to an Oce 9400?

(OP)
I have been trying to print large scale tiffs and/or pdf files to our company's oce 9400 printer, and all I get out of it are blank sheets about 36" x 16".  My plotter is set up as a Centronics printer/plotter, and it is using the Oce PostScript driver.  I've tried to find the answer myself on the internet, but to no avail.  Anyone else have a similar problem, or know how to fix it?

We had a 9400. Use the plotter manager to set up for my computer. Use the OCE 9400 driver (firmware reliant) and then try printing to it. Report back whenever

I am either not being specific enough, or not understanding what I need to do.

I could already print AutoCAD .dwg files, I just can't seem to find a way to get tiffs or pdf's from other programs to print to the plotter.  Is this a driver problem, or are other programs not suited to print to a plotter configured for autocad?

I wasn't sure what forum this needed to be posted in, if it should be somewhere else, let me know.

RE: How do I *successfully* plot tiff and pdf files to an Oce 9400?

I've had similar problems getting an HP plotter to deal with big tifs and pdfs.

I think the core of the problem has to do with the huge temporary bitmap file that has to be constructed and stored, somewhere, as the graphics are converted to stripes of bits to be sent to the actual printer.  I don't think the people who write printer drivers are all aware that tifs and pdfs come in sizes larger than 8.5 x 11 inches.

... so the drivers don't fail gracefully when presented with a large image.

The problem _may_ respond to a setting like 'build the temporary image on the computer' (instead of in the printer).  I think there's a setting for something like that in there somewhere.

When plotting pdf's to our plotter, we change the resolution from 600 dpi to 300 dpi (located in properties button when print dialog comes up).

I've also had a similar problem.  The plotter would print part of the file then print blank for the rest.  It was resolved by clicking on the advanced button and putting a check mark in the box next to "Print as image"

A blank stripe after printing 3/4 of the a sheet is way better than a black stripe, which is what that accursed HP ink eater did.
