HEC-HMS (3.1.0) Reports

HEC-HMS (3.1.0) Reports

(OP)
Hello
I downloaded the latest version (3.1.0) from the corp and started setting up a model for this basin I have up here in NorCAL. After setting the model up and successfully running the routine I wanted to create a report of the inputs and outputs of the model run-like we used to get with HEC-1. When I go to the Tools pull down menu the software promopts me for a XSL file to format the report. I have looked all over the HEC web site, googled HEC-HMS XSL and looked through the HEC-HMS docs but have not found anything on what or where this XSL file comes from. Does anyone around here know how to get input and output reports from this version? THANKS

RE: HEC-HMS (3.1.0) Reports

Hmmm.  Thanks for posting the how-to and sample.  Heavy stuff.  Because I'm not a computer programmer, I think I'll stick to opening the .basin files as text and printing.

The only problem with that is when you do routing.  The input storage-discharge table is not in that text file at all - either are user-defined unit hydrographs.  In NJ and DE, you use the Delmarva Unit Hydrograph for some coastal areas in lieu of the usual NRCS Unit Hydrograph where you just define lag time.  If the client wants to see some of your numbers, you won't be able to show him. I don't even think the .xsl sheets report that information either.  It just looks like a fancy way to format exactly the same thing inside the .basin and .met files, which can be read and printed from notepad.

The only get-around for this is to download HEC-DSSVue, which is a .dss file viewer for all the HEC-RAS and/or HEC-HMS output.  You can also read the .dss file in HEC-RAS and print out graphs and tables from there, but HEC-DSSVue has a better GUI.  You can download that from the same Corps site where you get HMS.

I want HEC-HMS to print out a long report of input and output like HEC-RAS does.  But until it does, I still say the best method is to print out the text .basin and .met files as the input, go into HEC-DSSVue and print out any paired data that went into the model, and use the same software to print out the output tables and graphs.  At least this Vue software lets you set your print window, control the time scale, and do some light formatting.

Hopefully for the next release, they will make the report producing capability better.

I used to use the older version.  Did the older versions produce reports like I described?
