Canadian Geotechnical Journal

Canadian Geotechnical Journal

Canadian Geotechnical Journal

(OP)
For information of your organizations, Canadian Geotechnical Journal is currently making back issues available (1964 to 1995) for purchase price of $2000.  This might be a good chance for newer geotechnical companies to build up their library.  There will be many papers in these journals that will be quite relevant today.
cheers

Ma'af:

www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca will get you to the web site.  The NRC Research Press publishes many journals - you will be looking for the Canadian Geotechnical Journal.

RE: Canadian Geotechnical Journal

For about 90% of us, the Canadian is worth more than the ASCE JGGE or Geotechnique.

RE: Canadian Geotechnical Journal

I agree w/dgillette.

Those of us in small, private practice need 'practical' articles. The CGJ has a lot more to offer. If I were dealing with research, the ASCE JGGE would probably shine on. As a side, I remember back in the late 1960's, my father had a several year subscription to Geotechnique and found something very useful in nearly every issue. I also have his ASCE JGGE collection back to the late 1950's and the number of bookmarks still in the issues is impressive. I also note the bookmarks became less frequent as the journal issues became larger.

Yes, the older Geotechniques was great - so many good articles (also should see the Institue of Civil Engineers Journal - also great - many good papers by Hooper on piled raft foundations.  I found that Ground Engineering Magazine back in the 1970s and 1980s was also great with so many good articles but sadly, it has deteriorated, in my view to a publication of "short" but incomplete stories of piling and civil works and much less on giving the good practical papers that it once did (two past articles were impressive in my view - one was about settlement calculations on sand - it reviewed some 15 methods and ended up saying take three and get the average and you won't be far off!; the second was on Steel Storage Tanks.
Take advantage of the CGJ offer if you can.

BigH,

Sorry for the off-topic nature of this, but...
I saw your post in another forum about an engineering cartoon.  I made a pdf of a cartoon that I'm nearly certain is the one you want.  I can send if you provide contact information.

crossframe:  Mmmm - there is a rub in that the site gets antsy (and rightly so) about putting in email addresses and the like.  Can you put this on free web host and send me the url? If not, then look up contact at www.vulcanhammer.com and send it to "contact us".  They will get it to me.  Cheers and thanks.

RE: Canadian Geotechnical Journal

BigH,

Sorry about the contact info faux pas.  I guess what I really meant was "a way to get it to you."

I saw a FAQ and uploaded it here:

http://www.mooload.com/new/file.php?file=file01/111007/1192104797/StopDigging.pdf&s=t

Never used this before, but the file came up when I clicked on "Server 1."

Sorry to hijack this thread (I picked it because it was "yours") and expose myself as a lurker, but I thought those were not sufficient reasons to withhold what you were looking for.

I hope it's what you wanted.  And I never knew from where the cartoon came.  I have at least second or third generation photocopy (got it in the '90s).

RE: Canadian Geotechnical Journal

Good Cartoon  crossframe, thank you.
I remember this hanging, with many others, in my Father's office. Good Memories.
I am at the DFI conference in Colorado Springs. Dr. Kulhawy Had a good collection of cartoons which provided entertainment and some good points. What a hoot!!

crossframe - my server is blocking so I'll have to go home and use my home set-up.  Will let you know.  Thanks for your help. Wished I could be at the DFI Conference - instead, I'll be off to Underground Singapore 2007 at the end of November.

I got it downloaded from home - superthanks; this is the one I remembered.  If any have one in colour, would appreciate it - but, crossframe, I will acknowledge your contribution to my presentation!!!! cheers
