Trouble drawing a connecting rod
Trouble drawing a connecting rod
(OP)
I start off with a sketch that contains the OD of the big and and the OD of the little end. I extrude. I then create a sketch for the material between the big end and the little end. I use the previous sketch for reference to create the arcs that go halfway around the big end and halfway around the little end. I extrude the connecting portion from mid-plane. The big end and the connecting portion become one solid body but the little end is a separate body and is not attached. I would like to end up with one solid body. Not sure what I am doing wrong but I can see a large gap between the connecting portion and the little end.

Perhaps you should start with a sketch of the three elements and create new sketches projected from that for each of the three elements.
I would extrude symmetrically from the sketch plane.

RE: Trouble drawing a connecting rod
I tried this and now have 3 separate sketches for the big end, the little end and the bridging section that connects the two. Unfortunately I'm not able to extrude the bridging section sketch that connects the big end and the little end of the connecting rod. I get a message that says I have self-intersecting geometry. I'm using two lines and two 2-point arcs for the bridging section sketch. Perhaps I am not sketching the bridging section correctly?
