Various standards are available for referring type of paints & their applications for equipment & piping in a large size process industry. Any gentelman in the forum to assist me as which 01 is the best standard to be referred & should be procured.

RE: Standard for Painting specifications

ak1965, I'm no paint expert, but my experience has been that the paint system specified depends mostly on:

Base metal
Operating temp
Insulation, or lack of

Probably no oh-one best, but you might check with Anchor, Carboline, Ameron, etc.

DEar snTMan,

thanks for your reply. However i was referring to the standards need to be referred for selection of paints, their application & application procedures.

The suppliers are not important for me. we have many of them. every one claims to be the best.

RE: Standard for Painting specifications

Your painting specification should be divided in the following equipment categories:

Pressure vessels
Off-SITES Storage Tanks
Structures
Tanks
Piping
Pumps

On each item you should establish temperature services insulated or non insulated equipment.

After that classification you should contact paint fabricators such as the ones SnTMan said or others such as Hempel and International Paints.

For each equipment service, according the location of you environment (next to the sea or not) they will help you to specify the best painting system according your needs.

RE: Standard for Painting specifications

The SSPC (society for protective coatings, www.sspc.org) has many standards for surface preparation, paint application and test, but I'm not sure about selecting the kind of coating for a specific task; that has to be done by your company according to the environment conditions, the paint manufacturers have many information regarding the paint selection process.

In the company where I work, we use the SSPC standards end the paint's data-sheet for defining the bid terms in paint contracts.
