Noise of air released to atm.

Noise of air released to atm.

Noise of air released to atm.

(OP)
How do I calculate the noise generated when air is expelled from a 1" pipe open to the atmosphere.  Air is at 132 degrees F at a pressure of 2 psig inlet and 0 psig at the outlet, and ambient temperature.  Velocity is 35 ft/sec.

This comes about when a tank is under 2 psig pressure, and is vented to the atmosphere when the tank is being filled.  The dry air vented into the tank is through a regulator set at 2 psig.

Thanks,

RE: Noise of air released to atm.

This sounds like a pipe organ type of issue. I would think that it depends quite a lot on the stiffness and exit configuration of the pipe. ISZ

RE: Noise of air released to atm.

i don't know the answer to this question.
but you may post it on the aero forum and see what those folks have to say.

noise of jet exhaust (much higher velocities, i know) are generated i believe by shear of adjacent air streams.

RE: Noise of air released to atm.

There are vendors that specialize in air vent silencers.  They could evalute your situation too.

RE: Noise of air released to atm.

Isn't this readily measured?
