Hole Callout Annotation not working?

Hole Callout Annotation not working?

Hole Callout Annotation not working?

(OP)
Hello,

I am trying to make a hole callout on a drawing I am working on and its just not working. I click on the hole that I want the callout on and all the prog. pops up a little flag next to the arrow which says "pick an edge of a hole". Well, I am picking the edge of a hole and its working fine. If i try the same thing on teh reverse side of the surface the hole callouts work fine.

I dont know what is going on and I am ready to print it out and write the damned hole callouts on it.

RE: Hole Callout Annotation not working?

UMDpru,

I had some problems with the hole call out function that were discussed in this thread:
thread559-182557: Hole Callout on Curved Surface

I am not sure that this will help but at least it is a start.

thanks for the tip. unfortuneately, it didnt help much. I just ended up doing the callout manually with the trusty old keyboard...

RE: Hole Callout Annotation not working?

Adam,
I would suggest you not modify or type in dimensions. Our rule is to never, ever text edit a dimension. We had a new guy do just that. Someone else sometime later copied the part, changed it a little then made the drawing. The hole that was text edited did not get dimensioned correctly. Cost us an ECN and shop rework time.
If SolidWorks is not dimensioning the way it should try fixing it, if you cannot fix it, then get your VAR involved.
In the future put your hole wizard holes on the same side you plan to dimension.
Good luck,

Adam,
Is the edge your picking on a curved surface, or at an angle to the face you're having problems with? If so, SW has trouble recognizing it as a hole.

Bradley,

Thanks for the advice. The part I am dimensioning is not a critical part. I realize that unlinking the dimensions from the part is a bad thing to do.

In this case, the part is merely a demonstration piece that needs to have a few holes punched in it.

JRmirisola,

No the hole is on a flat surface. I dont know what the problems is

Bradley,

The hole wizard holes were done so that they were on the dimensioned side. It still woudlnt pick up th edge of the hole. It did fine on the reverse side of the surface though...

RE: Hole Callout Annotation not working?

TRY DIMENSIONING THE HOLE IN ANOTHER VIEW, THEN COPY (DRAG) THE DIMENSION TO THE DESIRED VIEW.

RE: Hole Callout Annotation not working?

It must have been a problem with SW or the file. I deleted and started over and all is fine now.

Thanks for the help with this guys.
