Cables in Manholes

Cables in Manholes

Cables in Manholes

(OP)
Hi Everybody,

Please let me know if it is required, advised or not advised to seal conduits when they enter or exit the manholes.
I would appreciate any reference material on this subject.

Thanks,

Yigo

RE: Cables in Manholes

Required by who is the main question. It may not be addressed in codes but owner of the manholes (or owner's)rep may require it.

Sealing around the conduits (for water) is always required and done as it is the intent to minimize water entry in the manhole.

Sealing aroung the cables in the conduit is not always done.

RE: Cables in Manholes

In can keep water from traveling from one vault to the next.  A city engineer in the Northwest once told me the local utility had a better storm drain system than the city.
Google up JackMoon, they like everyone else have been bought by Tyco but they made good seals.  The seals could be applied after the cable was installed.  Not chepa but good.
