basic question on centrifugal compressor performance!

basic question on centrifugal compressor performance!

basic question on centrifugal compressor performance!

(OP)
here is a basic question that has been a source of confusion ,,let me start discusion for those interested ( and know correct answers) by these two qustions ,,

i always thought that for a constant speed centrifugal compressor :

1- for any change in suction properties like pressure ,mw ,T SUCTION VOLUME FLOW WILL REMAIN CONSTANT,but power will change propotional to mass flow? is this correct ?if yes ,then why in a number of literaure documents a constant speed centrifugal compressor will have its inlet volume flow changed if suction pressure or density in general is changed ?!!

to me i tend to beleive suction volume is constant as its a function of impleller dia and head not suction properties..

2- in case of throtting suction or discharge volume flow (and mass) will change(decrease )  cause head will change (increased) as compressor  will back up on its curve ?
thnx in advance for your response
