Noise Signal

Noise Signal

(OP)
Hello,

I have a problem regarding signals. I have a device which can give both 4-20 ma amd 0-10 volts signal. I wanna use this as an input to PLC which can be configured in either way. Which signal is more prone to noise and generaly what's range of noise signals? Cables are grounded at supply end.

RE: Noise Signal

You should shield either type but the 4-20ma is generally considered less prone to noise.

RE: Noise Signal

I like "generally considered".

It depends a lot. If you have lots of noise coming in, it is fairly simple to filter that away in a volts signal. It can be more difficult in a mA signal.

RE: Noise Signal

Generally if your line is going a few feet in some panel you'd just stick with 0-10V.
