Turning 17-4 Stainless Shafts

Turning 17-4 Stainless Shafts

Turning 17-4 Stainless Shafts

(OP)
I work for an electric motor manufacturer. I am turning some shafts 64 inches long down to 2.25 O.D. from 17-4 PHH 1150 S.S.  I am using a steady rest, but I am trouble with the shafts being warped and egg shaped after turning.  Does anyone out there with experience with machining 17-4 SS have any advice?

RE: Turning 17-4 Stainless Shafts

Aside from the advice given above on machining 17/4 here is how we purchased 17/4 already
It might pay to give these people a call.

Checkout the shaft brochure.
