Combining Participation factors

Combining Participation factors

(OP)
To All,

After running a modal analysis in ANSYS, you get participation factors in all DOFs. Can you combine these directional participation factor by SRSS and get a one value.

Thanks in advance

RE: Combining Participation factors

Hello,

According to the theory, the total participation factor is the sum of all directional participation factors for a given mode. So no SRSS is needed.

I recommend you to read the tutorial at

http://www.vibrationdata.com/tutorials2/ModalMass.pdf

It shows how participation factors are computed using a simple example.

Regards
Alex
