Underground Service or Buried Service

Underground Service or Buried Service

Underground Service or Buried Service

(OP)
Recently I got an enquiry where I came across two different services of valves
Underground service and Buried service. Are these two services different?
I feel that both are the same.
Please clarify.

RE: Underground Service or Buried Service

I could reason that buried means the valve has an extented handle and gease injection lines so that the valve is set underground and cover with dirt,

An underground valve may or may not have the extensions, but it is set inside a box or vault so that the dirt does not touch the valve.

RE: Underground Service or Buried Service

Hi,

I agree with dcasto with the following adder:
- Buried means covert with dirt. Actuators, vents, grease injections must be brought to the surface. In a wet environment the coating must be suitable for being continuously soaked. This is done with valves that do not require any/much maintenance. They are often welded in the underground pipeline.

- Underground can be buried, but also placement in a concrete pit. This is done for valves that require maintenance to allow removal from the pipeline without digging. Depending on the situation, the actuator, injection points etc. are brought to the surface or left in the pit as well.
