Noob BOM Question
Noob BOM Question
(OP)
Just started using SW Office Premium as a replacement for current CAD package. Want to know if it's possible to add different types of parts and have the reference designator generated automatically. I'm looking for the same functionality as a you would find in a schematic capture program. For instance in the schematic capture program you add resistors of certain type and you get reference designators of R1, R2, etc. In SW I would like to be able to add screws and lets say that my Ref Des for screws was Sx. They should be automatically designated as S1, S2, etc. The tech support at my VAR said this couldn't be done so I thought I would ask the experts here!

RE: Noob BOM Question
They are right... directly out of the box SW does not add fasteners like your description is asking for. Items added to a bom are in Item numbers by default. There are other options to you, but nothing that I can think of outside my maybe Custom properties possibly. Or if you were good at wirting some code (API) to help with this process.
