(OP)
Does anybody know of an on-line resource for log home construction details?

RE: Log Home Construction

Do a web search - hundreds maybe thousands of hits.

If you are really interested - get a VERY reputable company with many good references.  There are a bunch of nuts out there.  Make sure they can provide engineering in your state if you need it.  Many cannot.  I got involved in one project and when I saw their calculations - they didn't even show good - not by much but higher than I would have expected..  Their engineer said something likje "So..."

So - be careful.

And do NOT forget --- that log homes shrink - up to a couple of inches the first year.  So all plumbing, HVAC, electrical, cabinents, fireplaces, etc have to be designed to "float"!!!!!  or at least not "crash" into something else.

Good luck - have fun - most are quite beautiful.

I agree with MiketheEngineer.

I don't believe there is an independent body regulating these yet.  I have always obtained what I need to know from manufacturers (both of the log components, and of the incredibly long lag screws they use).

But now I remember--there are some of those IBC Evaluation Reports out there, that you can reference.

One of the structural engineering magazines had a good article on log homes about a year ago.  Cant remember if it was Structure magazine or Structural Engineer.  Talked about using threaded rod through the logs to attach to foundation

RE: Log Home Construction

Try this thread for a link to the articles.  There are also several other threads on this site about engineering log homes.  Washington State University and Oregon State University have been doing full log shearwall tests.  With a search you can find references to their articles.
