how to draw spline nx4

how to draw spline nx4

(OP)
Hi
I would like to draw spline from one end of a line, tangent to that line and to an end of a second line also tangent to that line. Ex line 1: x0,y0,z0 and x1,y0,z0, line 2: x2,y1,z1 and x3,y0.9,z0.9. What I got just look like a line connect between the 2 lines. Thanks for your help.

The easiest way to do that is with a Bridge Curve, which can be found under Insert -> Curve from Curves -> Bridge Curve...

RE: how to draw spline nx4

If you don't like bridge curve, you can edit your "straight" spline so that the curvature of the ends match the connecting lines.

Thanks JohnRBaker now my next question is if I have some points between the 2 lines in which the spline have to draw, what can I use?

RE: how to draw spline nx4

Can you draw a spline using those points, and then 'bridge' (twice) that spline to the adjacent splines?

CAD should pay for itself, shouldn't it?

RE: how to draw spline nx4

Draw your spline thru the necessary points, then edit the curvature of the ends.

I smell Studio Spline ;o)

I export the 2 lines and points to dwg. In autocad the command: spline allow me to pick end point of first line and point, point, ect and end of second line then tangent to second line and tangent to first line. Studio spline can not do the same thing in nx4. Thanks for all help.

Yes it does.  As you select the first and last end points, on the screen a couple of icons (labeled G1 & G2) will be displayed, so before you select the nexr point just select the G1 icon if you wish the end of the Studio Spline to be constrained Tangentally (G2 will give you Curvature continuity).  If don't select either icon, you'll get G0 which is just connected.  Note that you can also go back and edit the constraints on the end points (or any point for that matter) by just double-clicking on the Studio Spline and then selecting the point of interest using MB3 (Right Mouse Button).

Thanks John, you are the best.

RE: how to draw spline nx4

In addition to John's suggestions, you can also manually set slope and tangential magnitude via the MB3 button and using the handles to drag and/or assign slope to adjacent objects.

Another tool that's not documented very well is the ability to use XYZ coordinates to assign pole/point position depending on the type of Studio Spline you decide to use.  Just double click on the spline to get into Edit mode then double click any of the handles and a dynamic positioning tool should appear with XYZ input boxes, in which you can manually type in coordinates if necessary.
