Seismic Zone design

Seismic Zone design

I am confused and need some help. If I am evaluating a design for stick framed residence in a seismic zone C. Can I use the same design criteria in seismic zone Do?

RE: Seismic Zone design

What building code are you designing under?

Sorry IRC 03

RE: Seismic Zone design

Tini11, I do not have IRC-03 but have IRC-06.

As you are certainly aware, the purpose of the building code is to provide minimum requirements to safeguard the public safety, etc....Sec 101.3 in both IBC and IRC

So in most cases if you want to use more stringent requirements than the code minimum, I do not think code officials will reject the design but the client may due to increased construction costs.

According to the exception in IRC-06 Sec R301.2.2, "detached one and two family dwellings located in SDC C are exempt from the seismic requirements of this code." Is that the same with IRC-03?

For JAE et al, slightly off topic....I notice that IRC-06 R301.2.2.1---Alternate determination of seismic design category references IBC-06 Sec 1615.1. This section exists in IBC-03 but not IBC-06 and I guess these requirements are now somewhere in Sec 1613. Is there a link for an errata sheet to IRC-06 I can download?
