Can a butt weld that is contained on a designed straight run of piping be classified or termed "miter"? I'm arguing that it cannot be called a miter based on the definition of miter in B31.3 2004. I'm having difficulty with a construction group who are applying miter tolerances to allow for misalignment.
thanks for all input.

If a circumferential butt weld that joins two pieces of pipe does NOT provide for a change in flow direction, it is NOT treated as a miter joint.
