BOM automatic Update

BOM automatic Update

BOM automatic Update

(OP)
Hello all -  - -Happy Friday!! I fooled them again for another week!!

Problem:
I have an associate nearby using SolidWorks 2006

He has an assembly family of parts in a design table.

The length of some of the parts changes those parts are also in a design table.

He has an assembly drawing of these parts that is linked to the assembly.

This assembly drawing automatically updates if you change to model.

The bill of material however has to be manually changed

What he does is go into the assembly select the bill and select the configuration to be displayed.

He currently has about five assemblies set up each containing about twenty configurations.

He wants the BOM to update automatically.

Can anyone offer any help, please?

Thanks!

Thanks,

Rip

RE: BOM automatic Update

Can you clarify what is being changed in the assembly?  Is it only the configuration of the parts? If so the BOM should already be updating automatically if you have the parts set to "Use Configuration Name" in the Config settings, rather than "Use Document Name", which is the default...

RE: BOM automatic Update

Go to Tools > Options > Document Properties > Detailing and select Automatic update of BOM in the Bill of materials section.

cheers

Hi all.

We are still stuck.
To engAlright: It is the configuration of parts and no it will not update automatically

The main assembly has 38 variations.
Of that main assembly there are seven parts that change along with an additional 9 parts that are resolved or suppressed

In the seven parts that change there are 12 variations of each

I will attach the design table that drives the main assembly

Can I reference the bill I want displayed in the design table???

Thanks all.

RE: BOM automatic Update

If it's the config name of the parts that you want shown in the BOM, you will have to add a column to the BOM for each part called $PARTNUMBER, the value of which will be $C for each part configuration.

Note that under BOM settings, "Part Configuration Grouping" must be set to "Display all configurations of the same name as a single item" or "Display configurations of the same part as separate items" in order for the config names to appear correctly in the BOM...

Thanks engAlright for your advice. That fix however did not kill the problem.

Are there any other answers?

Thanks!

Have a GREAT weekend!

Thanks,

Rip

RE: BOM automatic Update

Also, make sure that you've selected, under the BOM options in the part config, 'configuration name'.
