(OP)
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF PERISTALTIC VERSUS DIAPHRAGM PUMP (APPROX 2 IN SIZE)TO MOVE CEMENT/SAND SLURRY?  PERISTALTIC PUMP MANUFACTURERS CLAIM LOWER MAINTENANCE AND VULNERABILITY OF DIAGPHRAGM BALL VALVE - YET OPERATION WITH ABRASIVES WEARS HOSE.  DIAPHRAGM MANUFACTURERS CLAIM LOWER MAINTENANCE AND NO PROBLEM WITH BALL VALVE CLOGGING WITH CEMENT PARTICLES.

RE: PERISTALTIC VERSUS DIAPHRAGM PUMP

Guys who make their living pumping concrete seem to favor plunger pumps, perhaps because of the discharge head, perhaps for other reasons.

RE: PERISTALTIC VERSUS DIAPHRAGM PUMP

Hi Richard,
I am interested in answers to your question! Currently using a peristoltic pump (2") to pump enamel (clay/glass based) and having to replace hose every 2-3 months. No problems with blockages (though I have only been at this company 6 months). Problem I feel is cost of the hose and regular replacement required (which pump company claims is normal rate). So check out the cost of replacement hose and likely life before you buy.

RE: PERISTALTIC VERSUS DIAPHRAGM PUMP

My experience with much smaller peristaltic pumps (1...3mm ID) says that 2..3 months is _excellent_ life for a tube pumping salt water at room temperature and low pressure.

RE: PERISTALTIC VERSUS DIAPHRAGM PUMP

If you can run a natural rubber hose, with the speed around 20 rpm, you should be able to see approx 5000 hours operating life; if you run at 25 rpm, the life will only be 4000 hrs....keep the speed as low as you can, and go with the most abrasion resistant hose you can come up with.
