Corner fastener calculation

Corner fastener calculation

Corner fastener calculation

(OP)
I'm looking formward to a hand calculation formula to calculate fastener load transfer at corner area. In this aera there is Nx, Ny and Nxy flow.

RE: Corner fastener calculation

Can you please be more specific?  I don't understand your question exactly.

A junction with a Nx and Nxy sollicitation can be easilly calculated: Ffasterner = square (Nx^2+Nxy^2) x pitch. What about vertice corner area on which the solliciation are (Nx, Ny and Nxy)? How do you make the combination of those flow to determine fastener shear load?

RE: Corner fastener calculation

what is this for?  Is this for a built-up wood member?  Please give an example of what you are talking about and the exact application.

RE: Corner fastener calculation

Cecile9, StructuralEIT is trying to get you to explain yourself more clearly so that he can give you some good advice. If you explain what the structural set-up is, type of fasteners, loading situations etc, then it is easier to give you what your looking for.

What i think i understand is that you have a fastener which as a biaxial load and a shear flow in the area. If this is correct, then i would simply take the root of the sum of the axial loads squared. Cant see what your talking about by trying to add in the shear flow, as it is a function of the axial loads applied to the structure?

RE: Corner fastener calculation

Cecile9:  Shear force on corner fastener is Ffastener = {[(Nx+Nxy)^2 + (Ny+Nxy)^2]^0.5}*pitch.

RE: Corner fastener calculation

I'm still confused as to what you mean by a corner fastener??

RE: Corner fastener calculation

Just to precise my question:
I would like to calculation safety margin at one fastener which is localized at the corner of my panel. The flow which have to be transfered and which is taken from the dedicated FEM is Nx, Ny and Nxy (shear flow).
note: for current area (out of corners) the load transfered by the row of fastener is F = ((Nx^2+nxy^2)^0.5 x pitch. Therefore, I'm still looking for the same kind of formula for corner area where the fastener has to transfer (Nx, Ny and Nxy flows).

Vonlueke: I do not understand how you could sum-up Nx et Nxy directly... don't you do a resultant calculation?

RE: Corner fastener calculation

Cecile9:  There are two Nxy vectors at each corner fastener, intersecting at 90 degrees. One Nxy vector is parallel to Nx, and the other Nxy vector is parallel to Ny. The parallel vectors are directly additive.
