Unit conversion for power
Unit conversion for power
(OP)
If we know that a pump's BHP is 23.4HP, what should it be in the unit of kW? When I use the unit converter in the internet, there are there are four kinds of hoursepower choices: horsepowers (Water),horsepowers (international),horsepowers (electric),horsepowers (metri). In this case, which unit should I choose? Please help me out. Your explanation or any kind of reply is appreciated.

RE: Unit conversion for power
1/1.341 to convert from HP to KW
and
1/1.36 to convert from metric HP to KW
As I understand it(and I'm sure someone will correct me), HP is the unit of measure used in the USA.
Metric HP is basically equivalent to the German PS (Pferd Stark) unit of measure.
Assuming you are in the USA, your pump is using 23.4/1.341 = 17.4 KW
RE: Unit conversion for power
1 hp = 0.7457 kW or to round off for ease of conversion
1hp = 0.75 kW
therefore 23.4 X 0.75 = approx 17.5 kW
RE: Unit conversion for power
The metric HP is described at http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/dictM.html
as a unit of power, defined to be the power required to raise a mass of 75 kilograms at a velocity of 1 meter per second. This is approximately 735.499 watts or 0.986 32 (British or US) horsepower.
Thanks to unclesyd for the Uconeer plug.

Another unit conversion program that I really like is UNCONVERT by COADE. It's downloadable from their website by going to the link below and it's toward's the bottom under COADE Utility Files.
