Gyroscopic and aerodynamic loads
Gyroscopic and aerodynamic loads
(OP)
What are some gyroscopic loads on aircraft propeller shafts.
One site says that the propeller shaft should be able to take 10,000 ft-lbs from pitch/yaw loadings but no propeller information is given.
A turn rate of 1 radian per second seems to be standard.
Any "typical" numbers given a certain propeller.
Thanks.

RE: Gyroscopic and aerodynamic loads
Any "ballpark" number given out could be wrong by a factor of 10, depending on the assumptions.

I think my learned friends here are tying to intimate to you that due to the many perameters involved in the calculation of prop gyroscopic loads, maybe if you gave more specific info you would recieve a ballpark figure.
Be carefull, the A400M engine is in dire straights. When it was tested last it broke the test stand, and unfortunately, it vibrates at its natural frequency. Airbust knew about this about 2 years ago, but as it employs anti-vibration pads the whole problem dissapears, apparantly so as the "expert said at the time", though he did state this prior to running the finished engine shaking itself to bits.
Maybe he's looking for a new job now????
