Spreadsheet for pipe flow/capacity

Spreadsheet for pipe flow/capacity

I am working on an audit of a sewer system and I got some help and configured a spreadsheet to calculate any of the following to an aproximation (around 3% error or less)

d/D
Q
Manning's n
slope
Diameter

those are the input variables, just place a "?" in the cell of the unknown and it will be calculated along with... Wet. Area, Wet. Perimeter, Hyd. Rad. and Velocity.

Here's the file in Excel

I have one for Quattro Pro but it has bugs to work out, so it may be a while before I can post that.

RE: Spreadsheet for pipe flow/capacity

Looks nice!  Will try on my next project.

Feric, thanks for the tip, I would really like to test against more calculators, when I went onto eFunda I could not find a flow calculator except for the pressure drop calc. Could you send me a direct link?

Thank you,

Daniel

RE: Spreadsheet for pipe flow/capacity

I can't get your file to download so I am not sure what it is calculating, but if you want something to check your numbers against have a look at http://www.repwars.com/cispi_ch8.pdf for some tables of calculated results

Thanks again guys,
I will check on the eFunda calc this weekend and post back on the results, since the pdf Katmar sent was a chart I did a quick test and on the 1/4 full numbers, with smaller pipes, my spreadsheet tested  to have about a 3-5% error margin, always calculating a bit higher than the chart. From about 8" pipes and above it has a 1% error margin. I want to get the error margin down for the smaller pipes and flow rates, but I am still happy with it as an approximation, it completley serves my purposes here and more. Let me know if you still cannot download it, this is the first time I have used rapid share, if it isn't working I get it up another way.

Daniel:

I just had a chance to check out you spreadsheet.

Not bad.  It is a good concept and set up.

My piece od advice is as follows: keep working, developing and improving such engineering tools.

Get more mileage under you belt and you will do just fine.

Good luck!

Thanks,

Gordan

Thanks for the encouragement Feric, I really appreciate it.

RE: Spreadsheet for pipe flow/capacity

beastmodeactivated,

Is there some reason you made it password protected?
I'd like to move some cells around and change the font.

RE: Spreadsheet for pipe flow/capacity

BigInch,

You're a better guesser than me!  How about a hint on the password?

Thanks,

Russ

RE: Spreadsheet for pipe flow/capacity

Man you're not kidding about that.  Can you drop me an e-mail?  my address is in the contacts section of my webspace page.

RE: Spreadsheet for pipe flow/capacity

Improvement suggestion:

Additional conversions:
1.  Maximum Gallons per day capacity based on user specified peaking factor
2.  % of utilization based on #1 depending on project requirements
